Additional Support in Care

How to choose care for your loved one

For those people who spent December and January visiting friends and family, you may have noticed that an older relative needs more support than they did previously. This may have prompted some challenging decisions and conversations over the last few weeks regarding their needs, their safety, and the provision of care.

Cramond Residence is a luxury care home in Edinburgh and exists to help make those decisions easier. The Residence provides a sense of reassurance that your loved one will be given the top quality care they need in a supportive and stimulating environment that enables them to retain their independence. With your loved one in mind, we take a look at some of the key considerations for choosing a care home:

The quality of care

Indisputably, the most important consideration when selecting a care home is the quality of care and support provided. As the support capabilities of different homes can vary, it’s important to choose somewhere that can provide the correct level of care for your loved ones.

Cramond Residence invests heavily in both its recruitment and training programmes with an emphasis on retaining and training staff to ensure the most competent and consistent support is available at all times.

This is exemplified by the recent ‘Dementia Promoting Excellence’ training sessions that we ran to equip staff members with the latest skills and techniques needed to support our residents to live well with dementia. As part of our commitment to working with families, we also offered these courses to relatives.

Stimulating activities programme

It’s hugely important to us that residents are able to create and cherish memories during their time at The Residence and our stimulating activities programme is perfect for ensuring that residents retain their independence and enjoy a social and invigorating routine.

A wide programme of activities is also on offer, including musical performances, history talks, arts and crafts, and visits from the local nursery and primary school. The care home’s therapy dog, Toffee, also visits every Monday.

Nutrition

Enjoying delicious and nutritious food shouldn’t stop when moving into a care home and we place great emphasis on ensuring that our residents enjoy individually tailored, healthy and balanced menus, which are planned and created by our expert catering team.

We are proud to make use of the finest and freshest seasonal ingredients to create memorable meals with a touch of fine dining. We carry this ethos in all elements of our catering, including our well-stocked café, which allows residents to enjoy delicious food and drink with friends and family outwith meal times.
