Nurse-led care ensures expert support

Thanks to our high staff-to-resident ratio, we offer round-the-clock palliative nursing care. We have local GPs on call and also have a partnership with St Columba’s hospice for specialised end-of-life care. This means that our multidisciplinary teams can deal with all types of symptoms and medical emergencies.

Alongside these provisions we offer practical, emotional and spiritual assistance to answer your questions and help you cope with any fears or anxieties. We will also support your family and friends, involving them where appropriate and giving them the time, advice, reassurance and consideration they need.

A better environment

The nature of palliative care means that the homely comforts and luxury provided by Cramond Residence take on a special importance. They allow residents, family and friends to spend time together in the best possible environment – one that is much less clinical than that provided in many hospices.

Frequently Asked Questions

Palliative care involves managing the pain and other symptoms of a disease in a way that allows the individual to live with dignity and with a minimum of pain and discomfort. The duration of palliative care depends on the individual and on the illness or condition that they have. It can last weeks or months, or in some cases years.

Palliative care is for those who have become terminally ill, or are diagnosed with an illness for which no treatment is possible. The decision to start palliative care is based on medical advice and is made by the doctor in consultation with the patient. Many people come to Cramond Residence from hospices to receive palliative care and support in a more luxurious environment.

End of life care is the type of palliative care you receive when you’re close to the end of life. At Cramond Residence we help those receiving end-of-life care (and their friends and families) approach death with dignity and free of pain. As with all forms of palliative care, the duration of end of life care depends on the individual and on the illness or condition that they have. It can last days, weeks or months, or in some cases for over a year.

At Cramond Residence, 24-hr nursing care is available. In addition, doctors visit bi-weekly and are on call at all times to deal with any issues. We also have all necessary medical supplies on hand. Our nurses are highly trained and very experienced and are specialised in many different areas, including palliative and end-of-life care. We also have a partnership with St. Columba’s hospice for specialised end-of-life care.

Alongside the exceptional specialist medical and nursing care we provide, you will be able to enjoy all the benefits that Cramond Residence offers, including luxurious accommodation, freshly prepared nutritious meals, fantastic facilities and a wide range of activities and entertainments. These are specially tailored to meet the needs of those residents receiving palliative care.

Visiting hours are open but we do ask that visitors are responsible and that they take account of your needs for rest and therapeutic activity. We also ask that consideration be given to other residents within the residence.

We have a ratio of one clinical staff member to every four residents, which allows us to provide excellent levels of individual care and attention. We also check dependency levels on a regular basis and provide flexible staffing levels to accommodate specific needs at specific times

We work tirelessly to make sure you are 100% happy, however, we do have a formal complaint procedure that will deal with any issues in a transparent and professional manner.
